Das Bedürfnis e.V. is a non-profit arts and culture association in Halle (Saale). We are a diverse group dedicated to repurposing unused urban spaces. The probably smallest listed building in the city of Halle (Saale), the former public restroom on Merseburger Straße, is the first building we aim to transform.In this 13-square-meter space, we want to generate experimental exhibition formats and bring more life to the location through a diverse and frequently changing cultural and event program. Our goal is to unite historical preservation with sustainable future use.We aim to create a public space for discourse and projects that will culturally enrich the southern inner city of Halle and encourage participation.
During my time at Das Bedürfnis e.V. we had weekly meetings that allowed us to connect and talk about future projects and exhibitions. We started a campain that could finance the first batch of reconstruction. For that we handed out little self made presents to give our thanks to our supporting communitiy. These presents were stickers, posters, postcards, soaps etc…
We aimed for the soaps to resemble the bricks of the building, dyeing them with natural ingredients such as carrot, green tea, and charcoal.
